Ali Taqi, a student at AUK emailed to tell me about their performance in the Microsoft Imagine Cup that was recently held in our region. The Imagine Cup is a student technology competition where the aim is to create technology that will help solve the worlds toughest problems. The AUK students came first in Kuwait and second in the GCC and have now qualified to the next level which is to compete on an international level in New York. Their idea is very simple and according to them was inspired from the blog.

The students saw how when I took a picture of a problem and posted it on the blog the proper authorities would find out about the problem and get it fixed. So the students came up with the idea of creating a software which would be set up with a variety of different authorities (emergency services, garbage collection, health ministry etc..). They then would create a phone application for people so that when they find a problem, they can just snap a picture of it and then have the application send it to the proper authorities along with a geotag so that the location of the problem can be located quickly. They’ve called their idea the Revolutionary Reporting System or RRS for short.

In the video above for example they’re showing you how this software can be used to report an accident. Usually you would waste time trying to get a hold of the emergency call center and then trying to tell them what the problem is and where the problem happened. With this software they created things would be a lot easier.

I wish the guys involved in this project the best of luck (Ali Taqi, Bader Al Mohammed Ali, and Eissa Al Qadeeri). It’s a great idea and I for one would use it all the time. I do think they need to work a bit more on the video presentation before the New York event so maybe a local film maker can volunteer to help them out with this.

You can read more on this project by visiting the AUK website [Here]

Astronomers have just captured an ultra hi-res image of our neighbouring galaxy Centaurus A, which is 12 million light years away! (113 528 765 671 000 000 000  Kilometers!). The zoom capability in this image is incredible. Check it out in the video below.

The entire galaxy is being sucked into a super-massive black hole (equal to the size of 55 million suns) in the galaxy’s core. The galaxy is the orange part in the center of the image. The black hole is visible when the image is zoomed in (the video shows it). And the blue areas that are spread around the galaxy are emitted gases and particles from the whole process. Notice that these gases and particles are spread over a span that is bigger than the entire galaxy!

Our humble human mind cannot conceive how huge this actually is. Imagine that while we sit on our comfy couch/bed hitting our laptop’s keyboard, there are millions of planets and stars out there disappearing slowly into a black hole. Right at this moment.

List of my favorite five apps that I can't stop using on my iPhone and I recommend each one of you to try them out since they're very useful.

TweetDeck is my number one app for those who have Twitter account. It does everything the original Twitter app do but with black theme which I find it better than the bright white theme. Also it gives you the ability to control your pages like adding a "Retweet of my tweets" page and show you who's still following you.

DailyBurn, already talked about it in my previous post. I'm still using it and already lost few kilos because of this useful app, really hope that I don't stop until I reach my target.

KuwaitBlogs and Blog@, two apps made specially for blog readers. Both apps keep you updated with the latest post from a large collection of the best blogs in Kuwait.

Viber, considered as one of the best apps that gives you the ability to call your friends for free using the internet from your data plan or wireless connection.

There are like tons of cool apps to share but these are my top five, what's yours ?

Sad but true :P

Around mid of the afternoon before time for college, I’ve passed 360 Mall for lunch and tour. As usual, I went to Geant to check out their new promotions, during walking down the escalator I saw people with 2-5 Samsung 32inches Palma TV in their baskets. During my way to the gate, their was huge promotions on the electronics and specially 32inches Samsung Palsma TV, which the people are buying it like a “Candy”. Their was only 1000 pieces to sell out which costs 89.900 KD and it’s really cheap … cheap price.

A couple of days ago I went to the dodge/chrysler showroom in kuwait. Took a look at their new Charger, I had to go see it after watching Fast Five! Check out the table in the photo for the prices. [simage=448,576,n,center,] (For a larger si

VIVA sent me the latest tablet device, the Motorola Xoom, to try out for a few days.

First thing I noticed was the many wires and accessories it had. There was this thing that looks like external speakers, with HDMI ports and stuff. I’m going to try and connect the Xoom to the TV, and check playback quality.

It’s going to take a couple of hours to charge, which means I can’t start playing yet.

You can get your Motorola Xoom from VIVA, starting from KD99.

Seems like Apple has already started working on the next generation of super thin devices. It has submitted a request to The European Telecoms Standard Body (ETSI) for a new standard size of SIM cards that are even smaller than the micro SIM. It’s expected for the new SIM to be used next year in devices like iPhone 6 and iPad3.

During these upcoming months there will be a lot of a cars being launched in the middle east and we will try to cover as many as possible. Today I was invited to test the out the all new Volvo S60, I'm trying to think of one word to describe this car

Shows an edge-to-edge screen, and a displaced camera flash. Also noticed the icons on the springboard look more like the iPad’s.
