It would be really fun if we could have something like this in Kuwait

I heard about this twitter account originating from Kuwait by what calls herself (Fatima Al Jahra’a) calling for an atheist future and challenging the existence of God.

The story might sound repeated and the idea was copied by several I’ve heard of. Though I spent a good amount of time going through her tweets and her answers, and her interactions with other tweeps. To me, it’s clear she’s seeking some sort of bizarre attention, but it makes you wonder, what would be the purpose of using such a topic to get famous? How old could she be? And what kind of background does she have? Coming from ‘Jahra’ one of the most conservative areas in Kuwait.

Her statements are very contradicting, and her profile pictures says ‘Thank God I’m an Atheist’. She does not attack Islam per say, but any religion who believes in God or some sort of worshiped symbol.

When I first heard of it, I was being asked to report the account and help block it, and it made me think, aren’t we at the time when most of us the new generations are calling for ‘freedom of speech’? well, here’s an example of a living case. Can we handle it? Or do we stop when we hear something that is not to our liking?

For me, believe it or not, I was never a believer in such a case..At least not when it comes to speaking of certain topics. I believe when your opinion starts offending the other it does not become your freedom to speak anymore! Not in the sort where you don’t care or you have no purpose, unless they could retaliate, an eye for an eye, isn’t it?

I’d rather be sitting with a group of people and discussing whatever we want with reason and respect. But going public for no purpose like that is not something I’d support. I ended up reporting the account, hoping it would work and be removed.

Take a look at some of what’s being said, or visit the Fatima Al Jahra’a on twitter to see more. Would you report it? or are you a true supporter of ‘Freedom of speech’ no matter how far it goes?

A reader sent me a link to this video of an accident that took place on the Gulf Road sometime last month. I’m not sure what the cause was and I really hope no one got badly hurt. The video doesn’t contain anything graphic but it’s might be difficult for some viewers to watch. [YouTube]

The photo above was taken by Ahmad Alnusif’s father and shows the Fatma Mosque being built back in 1972. I found the shot below on the Bestourism website showing the mosque today.

I think these two shots work really well as a before and after since the angles match up pretty closely. I’ve actually cropped into Ahmad’s photo above so that it matches todays photo (I hope he doesn’t mind) but you can see the full image in high resolution on his Flickr page [Here]

Good Morning Kuwait ,

Couple of weeks ago , I was doing a survey about a perfume . So by the end of the survey they offered me a sample of this product to be delivered to my doorsteps here in Sydney . I was like …. OK why not ?

So I put my details and everything and I received it couple of Days ago.

The sample was a post card with a small sachet that has the perfume scent . The idea of such samples is to get the attention of the customer . Take me for an example , There is no way that I would buy a perfume via any online store, because I don’t know how it’s gonna smell , and basically when you go to an actual store and test the smell of the perfume you would buy it instantly . The online store maybe possible if and only if I already used that perfume and it’s finished . Moreover , this sample idea is basically a good way to target your customers in order to make them buy this certain product in any available method .Basically , we would go for the online option for several reasons such as price difference , time saving , saving efforts …., etc . So for me , and for the first time ever , I might order this perfume via online because I already loved the scent of it .

My advice here is that if you running or thinking of running a business in Kuwait . Here is a new idea.

The samples thing in Kuwait is not very popular. OK you might get some samples when you already bought a product . BUT BUT BUT , getting a sample without even going to the store is something wasn’t introduced in Kuwait as long as I know . So , Here is the catch .

  • Get your interested clients .. from Facebook , twitter , instagram (I’ll be talking about marketing via instagram later on) . Whatsapp …. every possible way you could .
  • Then , ask them if it is possible to drop some samples by them . However , try to ask them about what interest them the most . Keep in mind that you will only drop ONE sample . So make it your best shot.
  • Later on , try to make some promotions for them as they already knew your product .

Samples in Kuwait delivered to your doorsteps …. new method worth the try.

I’m researching the Inuit / Eskimo / Yup’ik mask my Mother bought lo, these many many moons ago, and like anyone born to research, I am hopelessly lost, and enjoying every minute of the journey.

I’m not Alaskan. I was born in Alaska, and so many times through the years when I see blocks that need ticking, I have been tempted to tick “native Alaskan” but I know that they don’t mean me, and that there are people who really deserve those preferences. I FEEL Alaskan, even though I’ve been gone a long time.

(My Mother used to tell us not to play with the “natives” because “they had knives!” (Big scary eyes). LLLOOOLLLL! Can you think of any quicker way to get your kids to play with the forbidden group? They had knives! Plus, they were our neighbors, and our classmates, and we all played together. Skied together. Played Cowboys and . . . Indians. Yes! We did! LLOOOLLL!)

I found this fabulous video of segments from the “Celebration 2010″ There is a reason I am sharing this – first, for all my friends of all nations who love textiles and handwork as I do – and our name is legion – I want you to see this video and to see the magnificant ceremonial robes they are wearing. They have to be hand made; they are each so individual, even among people of the same clan, the bear is different, one from the other, the fish – different, the raven – fabulously different, I even saw a sun! I hope your heart goes pitter patter, just as mine is going.

I wish I could bring this entire celebration to Kuwait and do a presentation with the KTAA (Kuwait Textile Arts Association.) They would LOVE these crafts, and the dancing. Look at the wonderful drums!

Second – did you hear them ululate? This is what I love about my travels; no matter what our differences, we have some amazing similarities.

Celebration, a First Nation heritage event taking place in Juneau, Alaska, originated and was sponsored in 1982 by Sealaska. The gathering takes place every other year and is the biggest event for Native Americans in Alaska for Tlingit, Haida and Tsimshian peoples.

To me, the coolest thing of all is that this is not done for tourists, but for the First Nation peoples, to transmit their culture to their children, and to celebrate themselves. This second video focuses on the clans and their special dances:

Now here is the exciting thing. It only happens every two years. This year it will take place June 6 – June 9. Here’s the information:

Celebration Native Cultural Conference
June 06, 2012 to June 09, 2012
A biennial Native cultural celebration featuring colorful costumed processions, dance performances, authentic arts and crafts and gatherings. Held in various venues including Centennial Hall Convention Center.

We already have plans for this June (I’ll share more about that later) but I talked to AdventureMan and said I really, really want to go in 2014. He said (are you sitting down?) “That’s just the kind of thing I LOVE! We’ve been planning to go to Alaska anyway, let’s go for that celebration!”

And that is why, after all these years of being married, I still adore my husband. He is a man with a heart for Adventure, and he gets all excited about the same things I do, well, some of the time. There was a falcon fest once in Tunisia that he dragged his feet on because he had just gotten in from a long trip, but once we got there, we all agreed it was one of those things that we would have regretted forever if we missed it. He is always up for a new adventure!

Wooooo HOOOOOOOOO!

See you there?

A friend sent me these pictures of some new Cookies that Baking Tray have. I don’t know if they are any good, but if your bored of the delicious choco chip ones, these might be a nice change.
