Breastfeeding is revolutionary ~ especially if your mother didn’t…your sisters or friends aren’t…or your work and other life circumstances make it difficult to support. All these scenarios are likely here in Kuwait where the exclusive breastfeeding rate at 3 months is only 12%. So the decision to breastfeed is counter culture, with large marketing industries and social pressures trying to convince you to do otherwise. For those of us who were raised by hippies…or at least mothers who believed everything that was natural was better (garlic paste under the feet or in drinks for illnesses, comfrey tea for congestion, homemade home-ground wheat bread)…it was a decision that was second nature. But if you are new to to breastfeeding, your decision could be revolutionary for you, your children, your sisters and friends, and everyone you influence. Do you think we need more gyms and health centers in Kuwait? I say yes gyms are cool and can help us great counteract the zillion calories we are consuming especially that we have numerous restaurants and tempations are infinitely many, also more gyms will help improve prices and services for the exisitng gyms, but I noticed most of the gyms are men-only, also women health clubs are more expensive. So let’s see what are the gyms:
Fitness First: Its the world’s largest and most popular with over 540 branches, they said they have plans to further expand in Middle East and Kuwait is included, though they were supposed to open in first quarter of 2012 but nothing so far, I really wish they open soon.
Gold’s Gym: I spotted it in Salmiya beside electrozan, Gold’s Gym is American health club and also considered one of the best with over 650 branches worldwide, I expect it will open by end of this year.
Oxygen Gym – Jabriya: I’m sure you are all familiar with this one since its one of the most popular ones in Kuwait, they are opening another one in Jabriya on August beside Champions. I personally like it becauase they have good prices, the other locations are Adeileya, Fahaheel, and Al Riggae.
Platinum Gym – Sabah Al Salem: Its also one of my favorite gyms in Kuwait, nice facilities and offers, they will soon open Platinum at Sabah Al Salem area. The other locations are Kaifan, Salmiya, Fahaheel, and Corniche.
Thanks [AlMubarkia]
Power Gym: It was recently opened at Jahra, they say its amazing with great facilities and charges 40 KD/Month, sadly its way too far from my home but its a great option for those who live in surrounding areas.

I was longing for Fatayer (فطاير) and I read about this new gluten-free bakery named Firin from Bazaar so I thought I’d try them for breakfast, I keep hearing about health benefits for gluten-free foods but not sure what it is, from what I read on Wikipedia that some people are sensitive to it, plus they claim that it helps losing weight and increase energy levels and improves general health.

The bakery was small with a furnace, they handed me the menu; they had fatayer, cupcakes, breads, pizzas, muffins, and cookies. They only have take-away and home delivery orders, I ordered margarita and meat fatayer.

I favored their margarita, they don’t offer beverages. My check was KD8 and yes its high, I highlighted this to the owner; she explained that all their ingredients are brought from the outside and are high quality, she said they will look into improving their prices and services.

So Kuwait’s environment has ranked the 10th worst in the world according to the World Health Organization. If you think that is an exaggerated rank, you should really watch this video.
I know we already do see different aspects of pollution here and there. But for me, seeing everything combined in one video altogether is an eye-opener. The level of pollution is really bad.. really bad.
As for the solutions the video suggests, most of them are already being applied.
But whatever is done, the way I see it, Kuwait doesn’t stand a chance if people’s mentalities aren’t to change first.
Diet care’s dietitian Sarah Demashkieh is back in her 4th nutri-tips video. This time she talks about some common misconceptions about sports nutrition.
Did you know?
-Pineapple, kiwi, grapefruit, and other herbal drinks don’t help your body lose fat.
-Working out on an empty stomach doesn’t help you lose fat.
-Not drinking any water during your exercise will cause your muscles and ligaments to become stiff.

As usual, every two months I require to take my required replacement medicines from Mubarak Hospital in Jabriya. Of course if you don’t weak up at 6am to take a number before just for a piece of paper. Anyway, I arrived there at 7.10am even the time at the ticket were wrong nothing new in Kuwait.
I waited for 3 hrs the doctor arrived at 10.10am, he said I will not work today its hot on my room and the PC is not working. The PC were working front of me and he were playing solider. Then I waited couple of minutes and got really frustrated. I went directly to the hospital manager office and complain about the doctor for not just giving me a piece of paper for a press of button. After couple of minutes after a call from the manager office, the paper were ready.
Below image is the chart were I created of the procedure to take a medicine in a public hospital in Kuwait:

I took the paper to the pharmacy to pick-up the number were 54 and my number 121, oh my god. So I stayed exactly 6hrs for picking up just a medicine. Tell when Kuwait will be so difficult if even the citizens cannot take what they need without Was’6a.
Moving, exercising , eating less, burning more, i’m sure some of us aren’t doing enoughof that – including myself ! So I decided to take Marzouk’s path and get the Nike Fuelband. (got it for $149 from Nike’s website – shipped with relatives coming home from the States)
Check out the following videos that tell you more about it and how it works :

Amazing product, although some products of this nature already exist, and I was more lenient to purchase the FitBit shown in the video below, mainly because it takes more measurements and can also measure your sleep patterns, but I liked the community Nike+ offered and i went for that instead. Nike FuelBand — Would be the next habba in Kuwait for sure!

So Marzouk.. Are you ready for a challenge ?
Yesterday Good Health magazine celebrated the launch of their first Arabic issue with with Nancy Ajram – who’s on the cover- and the bloggers at Salwa Sabah Al-Ahmad hall.
Each of the 4 corners of the hall featured a different health issue; dieting, exercise and energy, with specialists willing to answer any questions we might have.
We roamed around for a while waiting for Nancy Ajram’s arrival.
This juice bar had the weirdest, most unusual juice cocktails! See all those veggis? they’re not for decoration. They were used to make juice!
The weirdest mix. This juice contains beetroot, zucchini, and spinach!
Yes of course I tried it. Tasted alright. If there was nothing else in my fridge I would definitely drink it
I had an very interesting experience with an energy specialist. She offered to read my ora and I just had to say yes! She passes these crystals over the person’s body and apparently every part of the body is connected to something, for example, she felt that my left shoulder is tense, which meant I had a sleeping problem. Very interesting science indeed!
This is how she checked the Side Talk’s ora..
And then Nancy finally arrived. It was the first time for me t see her in person. She’s just as cute as she is in pictures except smaller than she seems. Such a sweetheart. Kept smiling the whole time.
With the cute little Lujain
Loved her dress. Looks like an Elie Saab.
And got myself an autograph
I would like to thank Good Health magazine for the nice event. Would have loved to meet the organizers in person though.

Today I had a quick tour at the recently opened health and fitness club so-called Inspire Pure Fitness at Bida’a, I’ve been numerous times to Bida’a but never noticed it because there were no signs, its located nearby Melenzane restaurant. As I stepped inside and introduced myself, they welcomed to give me a brief tour along with their manager.
My first question to them “What is different about your gym since we already have many in Kuwait?”, their answer is the people and training and fitness experience they have, I liked how the gym was spacious and neat.
The gym is mixed, some of the facilities included group fitness studio, free weights area, treadmills, punch bags, kick bags, kettle bells, different fitness equipment, private lockers, changing rooms, and nice reception area spread on two levels. I liked how the training machines were located next to windows with nice landscapes, this helps with exercise.
They provide personal training sessions and advice on how to achieve the required fitness level, nice.

Shortcomings: There was no swimming pool, jacuzzi, sauna, steam room or cafeteria. Also I wish they improve their prices so more people can afford it.
